Dr Josh Chai
BA MA(Cambridge) MB BChir DPhil(Oxford) MRCP(London)
Managing Director and Consultant Physician

As an elected Oppidan Scholar of Eton College and Rolleston Scholar of St John’s College of University of Cambridge, Dr Chai qualified in clinical medicine from University of Cambridge with first-class Honours. He completed his post-graduate general medical training in St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals before taking up specialist training in General Internal Medicine and Cardiology at St George’s Hospital and King's College Hospital in London. Having been awarded the prestigious Medical Research Council Clinical Research Fellowship to pursue his doctoral research, Dr Chai completed his PhD (DPhil) at the University of Oxford. His award-winning research has been published in many internationally peer-reviewed high impact journals and presented in various international medical conferences. His primary research focus in cardiovascular pathophysiology has cultivated in him a strong interest in sports and exercise medicine. He co-founded PhysioQinetics with Michelle to bring about advanced manual therapy using evidenced-based and cutting-edge techniques. Dr Chai is responsible for clinical governance, technology solutions, and the strategic direction of the clinic. In his spare time, he is an avid wedding and portrait photographer.

Michelle Lai
Lead Physiotherapist

Michelle qualified from Brunel University and has amassed extensive clinical experience having worked in various senior positions in top London teaching hospitals within the NHS and in the private sector. She is an experienced AACP-accredited clinical acupuncturist and an advanced Pilates instructor and was awarded a post-graduate diploma in orthopaedic medicine. She works closely with some of London’s most esteemed orthopaedic surgeons, and treats a wide variety of post-surgical orthopaedic and spinal patients. As a keen runner herself, she is an expert in sports injury rehabilitation and has treated many high-profile, world-class, athletes who represent Great Britain at international level, including the London 2012 Game. She co-founded PhysioQinetics with Dr Chai with a strong belief in a manual treatment approach and instilled a clinic ethos that there is no substitute to experienced hands-on skills in injury rehabilitation. Outside of her busy lead role in the clinic, Michelle is also a prolific baker who enjoys making a wide variety of cakes and desserts.

Martina Apostolova
Chartered Physiotherapist

Martina trained at the National Sports Academy in Bulgaria and since qualifying as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, has worked both in teaching hospitals, as well as in the private sector, in Bulgaria, Spain and London; gaining valuable experience in manual techniques and exercise prescription. She is also a qualified member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine. As a keen athlete in a variety of sports herself, Martina sees and treats a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions; she has had first hand experience of the frustrations which occur from sport injuries and works hard to enable clients to maximize their recovery in order to reach their targets faster, and prevent re-injury in the future.

Ana Carapeto

Chartered Physiotherapist

Ana joined the team at PhysioQinetics as an excellent manual therapist having qualified in physiotherapy from Portugal. She specialises in advanced 'hands-on' techniques in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, and has gained a wide range of experience in treating sports injuries, workplace-related injuries, accidental injuries, as well as post-surgical rehabilitation. Ana has a special interest in spinal, shoulder and knee conditions; and completed further post-graduate training in temporomandibular disorders. Besides work, Ana is a keen runner, enjoys good food, reading, travelling, and exploring new cultures.

Patrick Roberts

Chartered Physiotherapist

Patrick has a strong sporting background including pitch side sports therapy and personal training. He graduated with a Masters degree in Physiotherapy from Teessside University, and previously graduated from Wolverhampton University with a degree in Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation. Patrick has completed post-graduate training in spinal manipulation, kinesio taping, shoulder, hip and groin related conditions. He incorporates manual therapeutic techniques adjunct with tailored exercise rehabilitation to enable pain free functional mobility of the spine and peripheral joints.

Tom Barras
BSc(Hons), MCSP
Chartered Physiotherapist

Tom graduated from Cardiff University where he developed his knowledge of various musculoskeletal conditions and their treatments. His patients have considered him to be a very 'friendly', 'enthusiastic' and 'attentive' physiotherapist, and was highly praised by a CQC inspector for the care and support they received from him throughout their treatment. He loves problem solving and is a big supporter of 'hands-on' physiotherapy treatments. As well as being an accredited chartered physiotherapist, he is also a qualified Nutritional Adviser; regulated by the Federation of Holistic Therapists. Outside of work, Tom is a keen rower and shows his dedication by training 3x daily in order to help him achieve his dream of competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He previously represented Great Britain in World Championships at both Junior and U23 level. In 2017, he won the Bronze medal for GB at the World Rowing Championship at Sarasota, and became only the fourth Briton ever to win the men's equivalent.

Jessica Dukes

Jess qualified with first class honours in Physiotherapy from Brunel university. Since qualifying Jess spent 3 years working for the medical team at Fulham football club and has had extensive experience working within the acute hospital and outpatient settings. Jess specialises in the rehabilitation of sports and work related injuries; she also thoroughly enjoys the challenges of problem-solving with her patients to achieve their goals, sporting or otherwise. Jess has post-graduate training in acupuncture, taping, and pregnancy related conditions; and she endeavours to start a Master degree in advanced neuromuscular physiotherapy in the coming year. 

Sophie Asher-Relf

Sophie graduated from the University of Southampton with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. Since qualifying she has completed rotations with Portsmouth NHS Trust and quickly developed a keen interest in musculoskeletal problems. She has developed her knowledge and skill of musculoskeletal conditions and takes on holistic approach incorporating “hands on” physiotherapy treatment with tailored exercises to ensure maximal improvement. Sophie has completed further training in shoulder conditions and treatments and regularly furthering her skills with a variety of courses and training sessions. Having been born in New Zealand she is a keen traveller and has also completed voluntary work in India.

Jessica Werner
BSc (Hons) Podiatry, MChS
HCPC-registered Podiatrist

Jessica qualified from the University of Huddersfield in 2010 and has since practiced in both the NHS and Private Practice. This has allowed her to extensively further her skills in all aspects of Podiatry, taking a particular interest in biomechanics and nail surgery. Jessica takes a holistic approach to treatment ensuring each individuals needs and abilities are taken in to consideration. This means using a range of techniques, exercise and orthotic therapy to treat various acute and chronic foot injuries. She is consistently furthering her skills by attending both podiatry, sports and movement courses and is also in the process of completing a pilates teacher training course, which continue to enable her to gain a greater understanding of the functional movement of the body. Jessica pursues a career in Podiatry following a series of knee injuries whilst training to be a dancer. In her spare time you can find Jessica at Pilates, Yoga, spinning or out walking with her dog…and of course catching up on some good box sets!

Sally Garner
Sports Massage Therapist

Since completing her sports massage qualifications, Sally has been working with various sports teams and clinics. In addition to her work in PhysioQinetics, she also works as a sports massage therapist for the Harlequins Rugby team, where she provides deep tissue treatment to professional rugby players. As a former rhythmic gymnast for Great Britain, Sally has an extensive understanding of the training load required to be successful within a sport and how beneficial it can be to receive massage therapy to help relieve muscular tension.

Koren Gibson

Koren is part of our friendly administrative team working behind the scene to co-ordinate patient care in our multiple clinics. Having worked in a large hotel chain and then at London Heathrow airport as a passenger service agent, she is committed to deliver to our patients the very best experience they can expect from our premier service. In addition to her administrative experience, Koren is also a qualified beauty therapist. She is an avid tea drinker, and absolutely adores her little feline friends at home.
