Verrucas are warts that usually develop on the soles of the feet. They are very common and are usually caused by infection with one of the the human papilloma viruses (HPV). They can look unsightly and are sometimes painful. The virus causes an excessive amount of keratin, a hard protein that forms the skin, to develop which produces a rought, hard texture. Verrucas are contagious and can be passed on by skin-to-skin contact or even indirectly, for examples, at swimming pools / changing rooms at the gym.

There are a number of treatment options available to treat verrucas. These include cryotherapy (freezing treatment), or application of chemicals. The more advanced treatment include dry needling of the verruca or surgical removal under local anaesthetic.

Our podiatrist will use their experidnce to determine which treatment is most suitable and effective for you.
